Mental Health - it's everyone's business

1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem this year.

Mental health problems can affect anyone: your family members, friends, or colleagues. They are indiscriminate.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for 20-49 year old men and women aged between 20 and 34. Men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Over half of all long-term sick leave in the UK is due to stress, depression and anxiety.

Mental health problems are on the rise. The World Health Organisation has predicted that by 2020 depression will be the leading cause of health problems in Europe.

Invesco and Mind

Mind: We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

This film explains a little more about who we are, what we do, and our need for your support.

So what we can we do about this together?

If you raise £70k you will fund:

  • one Advisor on our helplines. In 14/15 we helped 65,000 enquirers but we need to do more. Your support would help us increase our response rate from 70% in 14/15 to 90% in 17/18.
  • up to six new, vital projects in the community providing direct support to people such as training and employment schemes, counselling, advocacy and art therapy.

You'll be providing life saving and life changing support and advice for people with mental health problems.

Adam's Story

We met Adam last year.  He’d hit crisis point two years ago. He had asked for support but faced months on a waiting list. His illness spiralled and he considered taking his own life. Scared and alone, he went to A&E, but was told he 'wasn’t suicidal enough' to receive their help.

It was then he called Mind. He was desperate. He couldn’t see a way out – but for the first time someone listened and understood. Our Infoline talked him through the options available and found him emergency support.  Within a week, he was given a bed and took his first steps towards recovery.

Without Mind I wouldn't be here today. Mind helped me see my positives, my strengths and how my future wasn't as solitary and scary as I had thought. They helped me turn my life around and manage what I now know is my bipolar
