Mind Cymru reacts to Children's Commissioner for Wales report

Friday, 12 February 2021 Mind

Reacting to the Children’s Commissioner for Wales’ report, Nia Evans, Children and Young People Manager at Mind Cymru, said:

“This report shows the severe impact lockdown has had on our children’s mental health. This survey of almost 20,000 young voices strengthens our call on Welsh Government to prioritise access to good quality mental health support for all young people across Wales. Our fight against Coronavirus will need to become a fight to prevent the last year having a lasting impact on our children and young people’s mental health.

“The effects of the trauma experienced by our young people will only become clear in the coming months and the nature of it will depend on a range of factors highlighted in this report. Right now we need to recognise their experiences, validate their feelings and ensure that when they and their families seek support, this is delivered quickly, effectively and meets their needs.

“It is absolutely vital that support is available for everyone who needs it, as soon as they reach out.”
