for better mental health

We're On Your Side

We all have mental health and we need to look after it as, just as we would our physical health. Yet every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem. That's hundreds of football players, and thousands of football fans. That's why we've joined forces with the English Football League (EFL), to raise awareness of mental health, to improve the approach to mental health in football, and to raise funds to deliver life changing support.

We're Mind, and we're on your side.

Introducing your new support team

Like football, life has its ups and downs. That's why we're working with the EFL for better mental health. Because whoever you support, we support you.

We're on football shirts

A really exciting part of our partnership with the EFL is the inclusion of our logo on all EFL club shirts. This is the first time that a charity logo has been incorporated into the player name, and we are thrilled to be part of this ground-breaking design.

Including an iconic part of our logo on shirts is just the start of achieving real change by raising awareness and understanding of mental health in football, sport and society as a whole.

Names and numbers launch

Since the launch of the partnership, our ‘squiggle’ has appeared on the back of every EFL shirt across all Clubs in the Championship, League One and League Two, in a first for English football.

The new designs will continue to feature Mind’s logo with the number and the ‘squiggle’ will remain joined into the first letter of the player name – with the player’s name replacing the word Mind.

To celebrate the launch, we are asking fans to share their stories of their chosen names and numbers they wear on a matchday via social media.

We're at matches

We're going to be working in partnership with local Minds to deliver bucket collections and visual activations at lots of EFL club matches this year and next. We're also really excited to have a big visual presense at the 5 EFL Wembley finals which take place each season. If you're interested in finding out more or volunteering for one of our match days, please visit our football volunteers page.

Tips on how to start a conversation about mental health

With 1 in 4 of us experiencing a mental health problem each year, and suicide being the leading cause of death for men under 45, we all know someone who needs support. If you're worried about the mental health of a mate, read through our tips on how to start a conversation.

How groundhopping gave me hope

Lewis blogs about how visiting different football stadiums is helping him conquer his fears, and how the presence of the squiggle on the back football shirts through Mind's partnership with the EFL is making mental health a more visible issue.

"I can let out my emotions for 90 minutes and leave any worries outside the ground."
