Our trustees
Mind's board of trustees (council of management) is responsible for our governance and strategic direction. The board is accountable for everything we do. They:
- Set our strategic direction
- Scrutinise our performance
- Support our executive team of directors.
We're a federated network, with more than 130 local Minds delivering services in their local communities.

Clarke Carlisle - Chair
A former professional footballer and past Chair of the Professional Footballers’ Association, Clarke has spent many years championing better mental health support across sport, workplaces and communities. A long-standing Mind Ambassador, Clarke has spoken openly about his own experiences of depression, suicide attempts, addiction and recovery, helping to challenge stigma and push for change well beyond the world of sport.
Clarke works in the mental health and gambling harms sector, leading business development for Betknowmore UK, alongside currently studying for an MBA – he also holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Counselling, as well as an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Lancashire for business work in Health, Social Care and Sport. He has advised major organisations on mental health, wellbeing, and equality, diversity and inclusion.
Clarke’s governance experience includes chairing the Board of Trustees at Kaleidoscope Plus Group and contributing as an expert advisor to government through the Fan‑led Review of Football Governance.
Lynette Charles
Lynette has an extensive experience in mental health advocacy and organisational leadership, currently serving as the CEO of Mind in Haringey since 2017.
She is dedicated and passionate about advancing mental health initiatives. Under Lynette’s leadership, Mind in Haringey have undergone a remarkable transformation from the brink of closure to a thriving and sustainable organisation.
Lynette possesses a deep understanding of governance, strategic planning, and collaborative leadership, and fosters those collaborations amongst local Minds and key stakeholders. This results in tangible improvements in service delivery and advocacy efforts across London. She has been actively engaged with the network prior to becoming CEO and participated and volunteered extensively across various steering groups and leadership programs.
Her personal journey, which was marked by experiences of adversity and resilience, has fuelled her lifelong passion for mental health advocacy. As a dual heritage black woman who grew up in a deprived area of West London she understands the intersectionality of mental health, poverty, and systemic inequalities.
Her professional qualifications as a social worker, psychologist, and counsellor have further complemented her lived experiences, enabling her to offer better holistic and culturally responsive support.
Lynette cares a lot about helping Mind reach its goals. She’s especially focused on making Mind an anti-racist organisation, working better with others across the Mind network, and supporting fairness, openness, and inclusion. She also speaks up for race equality, mental health, and young people.
Her hobbies include seeking out diverse reading materials and exploring the principles of Buddhism, along with an enjoyment of music and contributing where she can to wider environmental conservation efforts.
Kevin Corrigan
Kevin is vice president of the University of Reading and a board member of CCLA charity funds. His background is in investment management, working with pension funds, families and local government.
Kevin has a long interest in mental health and lost his partner to suicide. He is a trustee of Suicide & Co which support people dealing with grief after suicide and was a trustee at Samaritans. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
Pippa Glucklich
Pippa has more than 30 years of experience in advertising, media and digital communications. She has led several agencies, including Starcom, Dentsu and most recently Electric Glue. She was also part of the leadership team that helped guide the sale of independent agency BLM to the global Havas network.
Pippa is passionate about creating positive workplace cultures and helping women succeed in their careers. She is a former President of Women in Advertising and Communications Leadership (WACL), a past trustee of industry charity NABS, and Chair of timeTo, an initiative that works to end sexual harassment.
Pippa now has a portfolio career, combining a range of board and advisory roles. She serves on the council and board of the Advertising Standards Authority, is Vice Chair of Mind, advises Sport England, and chairs the English Sport Development Trust, which oversees campaigns including This Girl Can.
Valerie Harrison
Valerie’s long career in the NHS saw her through several roles and as chief executive for 2 trusts, and she’s also worked as a consultant for and international consultancy firm, focusing on mental health services.
She spent the last decade of her career as chief executive for an advocacy charity and is currently a trustee of her local Citizens Advice Bureau and previously was chair of her local Mind.
Steven Hill
Steven has spent more than 30 years supporting the mental health and wellbeing of people across Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. As Chief Executive of Coventry, Warwickshire & Worcestershire Mind, he leads one of the largest local Minds in England. They provide community, crisis, housing and talking therapy services that help thousands of people each year.
Since joining Mind in 1994, Steven has worked to make mental health support easier to access and more focused on people's needs. He is passionate about reducing inequalities and making sure everyone can get the help they need. He also believes that the best services are designed and delivered in partnership with people who have lived experience.
Alongside his role as Chief Executive, Steven helps shape local and national mental health initiatives and supports governance across the Mind Federation. His work focuses on building strong, sustainable services and communities, and ensuring that mental health remains a priority for decision makers. He is committed to a simple belief: everyone should be able to access high-quality, compassionate mental health support when they need it.
Jonathan Huish
Jonathan is an experienced leader, Chair, advisor and coach with international experience and qualifications in Economics, Finance, Strategy, Psychology and Leadership. He is a Founder of the Avanti Change Consultancy and the Chair of Butterfly Data.
He has chaired a wide range of Boards, including RCT Health Board, the South Wales Police Authority, and the Party Leaders Forum in Belfast. He also led the governance review of public administration of Northern Ireland.
Jonathan brings more than 25 years of senior leadership experience and has served as a councillor for 17 years, in both leadership and opposition roles. He holds a doctorate in Leadership and Change from Cranfield, a master’s degree in Behavioural Psychology, and a Management & Law degree from the London School of Economics. He is also a qualified public finance accountant (CPFA).
Sami Rahman
Sami is a senior data and AI leader with experience across media, banking, publishing, retail, consulting, and technology. He’s currently Principal Consultant - Head of AI Strategy & Solutions at DataArt, where he leads the organisation’s work on data strategy and applied artificial intelligence. His role focuses on building reliable data and AI systems, improving governance, and developing strong analytical skills across the business to support good decision-making.
Sami is also a part-time PhD student in Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Reading. He has a background in computational psychology, and his research looks at how immersive technologies can help us understand and influence human behaviour, engagement and wellbeing.
Sami is committed to mental health advocacy and social justice. He’s especially interested in improving understanding of mental health, reducing stigma, and addressing barriers that lead to unequal outcomes.
Shubulade Smith
Lade is a General Adult and forensic consultant psychiatrist in the NHS, and a visiting senior lecturer at Kings College London.
She holds a research fellowship in antipsychotic side effects. She set up a joint medication review and physical health clinic, aimed at health promotion and management of physical problems in people with serious mental illnesses. She is the Clinical Director of the Forensic Services at SLaM and lead for the Acute Forensic Pathway of the South London Partnership. She is President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Lade was also part of the core working group for the independent review of the Mental Health Act, responsible for some of the key recommendations to come from the review including improving outcomes for black people with mental health problems.
She has a BMA Pioneer award for innovation in psychiatry. In 2019 she was awarded Psychiatrist of the Year by the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She has been named one of HSJ’s 50 most influential Black, Asian or ethnic minority people in health.
Jude Trenier
Jude is a Chartered MCIPD-qualified People and Culture leader. She has more than 25 years of experience in charities and purpose-driven organisations. She is passionate about creating workplaces where everyone feels valued, supported and able to do their best work.
At Parkinson's UK, Jude is Head of Learning and Inclusion. She leads learning, inclusion and belonging programmes for more than 650 staff and 4,000 volunteers. With experience of Community and Youth Studies, Mental Health First Aid and coaching, she is an expert in inclusive leadership, workplace culture and supporting people's wellbeing.
Jude brings this experience to Mind, helping to build a caring, inclusive and resilient culture. She supports Mind's mission by helping create positive experiences for staff, volunteers and the communities we work with.
Recently, Jude’s worked with parliamentary bodies advocating for refugees and young people, and she's helped lead and grow several charities.
Her personal experience with mental health struggles and gender-based violence has inspired her to speak up for more awareness, understanding, and support for others facing these challenges.
Dr Taran Toor
Taran has a unique mix of experience in healthcare, business and leadership. He is an award-winning entrepreneur, a doctor and a senior healthcare leader. During his career, he has worked in start-ups, growing businesses and large international companies. He currently leads the consumer growth strategy at Square Health, one of the UK's leading digital healthcare providers.
Taran is a former founder, a trained GP and public health doctor, and a health economist. He studied medicine at King's College London. He has also studied at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the London School of Economics and the University of Cambridge.
Alongside his leadership role at Square Health, Taran continues to work as a senior NHS GP. He also teaches at UCL and the University of Cambridge and advises healthcare start-ups.
Cynthia Tze Keng Ko
Cynthia is a global citizen with a heart for the planet and its people. She’s struggled with her mental health since the age of 11 while being on the receiving end of racism. At 18, she was diagnosed with chronic depression and has been on and off therapy ever since.
Her life has been a constant search for belonging, trying to find a balance between her Chinese ethnicity and Dutch upbringing.
Despite the adversities in her life she’s always found a home in social impact, by using her wide-ranging skills as a behavioural scientist, service designer, researcher and campaigner.

- Makes sure our work reflects Welsh culture, identity and devolved organisations
Finance, risk and audit committee
- Oversees and monitors Mind's financial, fundraising and admin activities
- Is partly responsible for auditing Mind's work
Mind Retail board
- Leads Mind Retail and reports to Mind's board
- Reports to Mind via the finance, risk and audit committee
People, equity and culture committee
- Oversees and monitors Mind’s people strategy and organisational culture
- Ensures that the policies and practices associated with the strategy are consistent with Mind’s values and desired culture
Nominations and remuneration committee
- Oversees recruitment of all trustees and honorary officers and advises the board on the skills and diversity required to be an effective board
- Ensures all senior management staff are remunerated fairly
