How Mind works

Learn about how we are structured, and how to find the help you need.

We are made up of three parts that work together – national Mind, local Minds, and Mind shops.

Together, we are a strong and caring community, standing up for better mental health for everyone.

National Mind

Mind works across all of England and Wales. Our head offices are in London and Cardiff (for Mind Cymru).

At Mind:

We fight for change

We want mental health to be taken seriously by the government and by people who run services. To make this happen, we speak up, challenge those in power, and campaign for a better future for everyone.

We support people with mental health problems

Through our information and support, we make sure people living with mental health problems find the help they need.

We raise awareness

We share real experiences and bring people together to fight for mental health. We fight mental health stigma, with campaigns and yearly reports to track our progress.

If you want to know how we plan to do this over the next few years, read our strategy.

Read our annual report to see how we’ve been fighting for mental health over the last year.

Mind was such an invaluable source of information. I can't put into words how helpful they were for both of us.

Local Minds

Local Minds are independent charities that help people with their mental health across England and Wales.

Each local Mind offers different services, based on what local people need. This can include things like counselling and support from others with similar experiences.

Mind's shops

Our shops help us raise funds for our work. Are you looking for pre-loved clothes, books and unique pieces? You might find them at one of our charity shops on the high street. And if you're looking for gift ideas, wedding stationery, or wellbeing subscription boxes, you'll find them on our online shop.

Trusting all parts of Mind

Whether you use our services or raise money for us, we want you to feel confident that you can trust us.

That’s why we have the Mind Quality Mark (MQM). It shows that every part of Mind is working to a high standard.

The MQM means that all Mind charities:

  • Can be trusted
  • Are well managed
  • Offer safe and helpful support

The Association of Charitable Foundations (ACF)

Mind is proud to be a member of the Association of Charitable Foundations. Our federated structure means that Mind acts as a gateway to our network of almost 100 local Minds across England and Wales. Alongside our national services, research and advocacy, we fund and scale up the most impactful grassroots mental health support initiatives across the federation.

Learn about the ACF

We can help you support frontline mental health services and communities you care about, while at the same time offering you the reassurance, regular contact and ease that comes with a single charity partnership. We can even help you champion national campaigning, advocacy, research or advice, alongside local mental health services, to widen still further the impact of your support.

In 2024, Mind made grant payments of £1,170,301 to local Minds, thanks to our community of donors and supporters. If you would like to partner with Mind to support the federation, please contact us at [email protected]

Support what we do

We couldn’t do anything without support from incredible people like you. With your help, we can make more noise in the fight for better mental health and be there for more people who need us.

Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

  • Fundraise – organise your own fundraising event or support Mind as part of a challenge event (like a marathon)
  • Donate – give once or donate regularly. You can also leave a gift in your will or donate in memory of a loved one
  • Volunteer – become a volunteer in one of our many retail shops across England and Wales
  • Become a corporate partner – we’re always on the lookout for businesses who are keen to play a role in raising money or campaigning for mental health
