Our work with marginalised communities
Physical activity has so many benefits for our overall wellbeing. It can boost confidence, improve mood, help us sleep better and even reduce the risk of depression.
We’re championing physical activity and sport for everyone. But those of us from marginalised communities often have fewer opportunities to participate. And it can be harder to talk about thoughts and feelings. At Mind, we work with partners to support the mental health of marginalised communities through physical activity.
Our approach
We’ve worked with:
Muslim Sports Foundation
We’re working together to raise awareness of mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. We want to address mental health stigma for Muslim communities.
To do this, we've worked in partnership on the Mindful Sunnah campaign. The campaign includes a nationwide survey exploring the mental health experiences of British Muslims.
The survey results and input from our Lived Experience Advisors have helped to develop the Mindful Sunnah resource. The resource unites Islamic tradition with modern psychology and physical activity. It aims to help Muslims reconnect mind, body and soul through faith, movement and mindfulness.
Sporting Equals
Mind is proud to once again sponsor the Wellbeing Award at the Sporting Equals Awards.
Across the country, organisations and community groups are using physical activity to support mental wellbeing, connection, and confidence.
Together with Sporting Equals, we are raising awareness, sharing learning, and strengthening mental health support through sport.
Muslimah Sports Association (MSA)
We’ve worked with MSA and Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge. Together, the ‘Positive Minds’ programme has been relaunched. Positive Minds supports women’s wellbeing through physical activity and peer to peer support. Read how Zohra has benefitted from being involved in Positive Minds.
