Moto fundraising

In July 2022, the Moto Foundation - the charitable arm of Moto Hospitality, the UK’s leading motorway service provider - launched a 5-year partnership with Mind and SAMH to take on the nation’s growing mental health crisis.

From the outset, they’ve had bold goals to raise £1.25 million, boost public awareness, and empower Moto colleagues and customers to champion wellbeing. This partnership is driving real change at the heart of communities across the UK.

How Moto is supporting Mind

  • Fundraising for Mind: Raised an epic £1.22 million for Mind through challenge events, on site fundraising, donation tins and Pennies microdonation contactless opt-ins
  • Spread awareness: Colleagues promoted mental health and supported Mind’s mission across the company.

How Mind is supporting Moto

  • Inspired colleague engagement: Mind’s partnership motivated Moto teams to take on creative fundraising activities and ambitious challenges, bringing staff together with a shared purpose.
  • Built confidence around mental health: Staff confidence in talking about mental health rose from 3.2 to 3.7, and confidence in knowing where to seek support grew from 3.6 to 4.0.

Since its first year, the partnership with Mind has truly brought Moto colleagues together, sparking creativity, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose.

Colleagues across sites led their own fundraising ideas – from seasonal summer and Easter events to a one-of-a-kind “buskathon” – giving teams the chance to collaborate in new and engaging ways. Many colleagues went even further, taking on ambitious challenges like dragon boat racing, Tough Mudders, the Three Peaks, and even a virtual balloon race, all while proudly representing Moto and raising funds for Mind.

The impact on staff has been clear. Colleagues reported feeling more confident discussing mental health, with scores rising from 3.2 to 3.7 out of 5. Confidence in knowing where to seek external support also grew, climbing from 3.6 to 4.0. With more initiatives planned, the partnership continues to inspire colleagues, boosting wellbeing while uniting Moto teams behind a cause that matters to them and their communities.

"Working with Mind has been a game-changer for our colleagues at Moto," says Louise Hughes, chair of Moto Foundation. "Our partnership has helped break down stigma, build resilience, and create a culture where mental wellbeing truly matters.

"We’re proud of our journey together so far and look forward to continuing make a positive difference to those in need of support."
