Unveiling the Robert D.S. Dangoor Room at Redman Place

Mind's CEO Sarah Hughes reflects on the life and lasting legacy of Robert D.S. Dangoor.
Last week, we gathered in the heart of our London offices for a moment that was both deeply emotional and full of hope – the unveiling of the Robert D.S. Dangoor Room at Redman Place.
It was an honour to host the Dangoor family and their close friends, alongside members of our Big Mental Health Advisory Group and Trustee Board. We came together not only to remember Robert, but to recognise the extraordinary legacy he and his family are creating in the fight for better mental health.
Robert D.S. Dangoor was a man who lived with mental health challenges, meeting them with a sharp wit and quiet resilience. He used writing to steady himself, to process, to endure, to connect.
One of his lines has stayed with me: “One of your smiles will take me miles.” It’s a reminder that even the smallest acts of compassion can carry someone through the hardest of days.
Thanks to the generosity of the Exilarch’s Foundation – established by Sir Naim Dangoor and now led by Robert’s brothers, Elie, David and Michael – Mind is delivering the Big Mental Health Report: a transformational 8–year project mapping the reality of mental health in England and Wales. This work is about more than data. It’s about making sure no mind is left behind.
Together, we are uncovering the true state of mental health, stigma, and support across the UK – and we are determined to use this insight to spark action. Whether it's housing, benefits, education or employment, mental health touches every corner of life, and change is long overdue.
To the Dangoor family: thank you. Your decision to turn personal loss into national impact is a powerful act of courage. Your support will help us bring about the changes Robert wanted to see – and the changes we all so urgently need.
