Caroline, volunteer in Leigh on Sea shares her experience from volunteering at a Mind shop.

How long have you been volunteering in the Leigh on Sea Mind shop?
I have been a volunteer for 16 years.

Why did you start volunteering?
My son was going to start secondary school. Due to him being disabled I was not able to work, so I decided that I would like to volunteer somewhere.

I was waiting in my car outside the bank when the manager tapped on my window and said that we had the same number plate. We got chatting about how my son was starting school and that I was looking to do something, so they invited me to come and have a look around and asked if I would like to work with them. It was almost as if I was meant to be there.

What do you like the most about volunteering?
It feels like I belong here, I get to work with great people. I met my husband at the shop and enjoy meeting all the new team members and managers.

What have you learned from your experience?
That I can learn new things and how much I enjoy working on the till with customers.

A few words for your shop team…
We have a fantastic team who I love working with and wonderful managers. I will never leave Mind.
