Telephone fundraising at Mind

Phoning is one of the many ways we speak with our supporters, and one of the most cost-effective.

It gives the opportunity for supporters to ask us questions, share their thoughts and learn more about our work. It also allows us to raise money to continue our work supporting people with mental health problems.

We consistently monitor the success of our fundraising campaigns to ensure they are as beneficial as possible for Mind.

If you receive a call from Mind, it’s likely that you’ll be speaking to someone from our partner telephone agency, Ethicall.

Our fundraisers will only call if you’ve given your number to Mind. They will never call from an unknown number. If you return the call, a message will tell you who called and give you the option to opt out of the campaign.

At the start of the conversation, they’ll say their name. They’ll also tell you they’re calling on behalf of Mind.

If they ask you for a donation, they will give you information on the cost of the fundraising campaign and how much money it is expected to raise for Mind, as well as the name of the agency they are calling from.

If you don't want to give contact or bank details over the phone, you can request a paper form in the post. All Direct Debits created or updated on the phone are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee. Calls may be recorded for training purposes.

We rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to help us continue our work, which means embracing all forms of communication to reach different people. We understand that some people would prefer not to be called and we take care to record contact preferences.

We screen calls against the TPS register and remove those on the list, where needed. If people have agreed to be contacted by us, TPS screening is not required.

No. We only make calls to people who have already registered to hear about our work or one of our campaigns, or who have told an agency that they are happy to be called by us.

Ethicall can only call you on behalf of Mind because they have a contract to do so. When this ends, they can't call our supporters anymore. 

We only have your telephone number on our database if you've supplied it to us. We don't buy telephone numbers to call our supporters.

If you do speak to one of Ethicall’s staff on the phone they'll offer you the opportunity to tell us you don't want to be called in the future. You can read our privacy policy which gives much more detail about the legal basis that we have to contact you.
