Campaigning with people with lived experience

One of the most powerful ways of maximising the impact of campaigns is to involve people with lived experience. On this page, learn how we did it in the Time to Change campaign.

Involving people with lived experience in our Time to Change campaign

Time to Change was a campaign that Mind ran with Rethink Mental Illness from 2007 to the end of March 2021.

It aimed to challenge stigma and discrimination around mental health. A network of 'Champions' – people with lived experience of mental health problems - campaigned to end discrimination in their communities.

On a national scale, the project recruited Champions to create marketing strategies and advertising campaigns. Many appeared on television and radio to talk about the impact of stigma and discrimination.

On a local scale, Champions helped to shape, develop and improve services, and challenge stigma and discrimination.

Time to Change Champions in Norwich

In February 2016, Champions in Norwich help to plan and deliver a regional Time to Change Champions' Celebration.

The celebration was an opportunity for Champions from across the region to network and share skills.
