Supporting the mental health of others: an elearning initiative

Starting a conversation about mental health can be hard. We may not know where to begin or what to say.

Mind are working in partnership with Co-op, alongside SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), and Inspire in Northern Ireland, to bring communities together to improve mental health support.

Help us develop our online module

We're developing a free, open access online module to help people support the mental health of other people in their communities.

This isn't a training course to ‘fix’ mental health problems or make someone a mental health professional. It's about learning to have meaningful conversations, so everyone can find the information and support they need.

We want people with experience of mental health problems, or of supporting someone else, to tell us about their experiences. We especially want to hear from people from racialised communities and people living in poverty. We'll then use what you say to help us design the course.

Take our survey

This online survey aims to understand what topics people would like to see included in this module and how. It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete.

Do an online workshop

We're running 4 online workshops, depending on your experience of mental health. We're prioritising the voices of people from racialised communities and people living in poverty. Please choose the workshop that is most relevant to you.

  • Group 1 is for people with lived experience of mental health problems.
  • Group 2 is about supporting someone experiencing mental health problems.

Group 1 workshops are on Thursday 1 December, 2-4pm and Friday 2 December, 2-4pm.

Group 2 workshops are on Monday 28 November, 2-4pm and Tuesday 29 November, 2-4pm.

Everyone who takes part in a workshop will get a £25 payment to say thank you.

Do an online interview

We're also holding one-on-one interviews online for anyone who feels more comfortable talking one-to-one than in a group. Or for people who'd like to talk more deeply about their experiences.

Interviews will take place in November and December.

Everyone who takes part in an interview will get a £20 voucher to say thank you.
