Newport Mind - Systems Change Project Worker

About the role

This post will support the implementation of the Coop Resilience Programme, funded by Mind. This is a very unique project where staff members, young people and the community will be actively involved in shaping brand new pilot approaches to existing issues, and is ideal for creative and adventurous workers who enjoy challenging traditional approaches, and listening to those most affected to inform their approach.

This project looks to increase the volunteer diversity and representation, particularly from LGBTQIA+ and BAME backgrounds, young men and those living in deprived areas of Newport. This will help us achieve the following four core outcomes:

  1. Young people who previously would not have thought to access wellbeing, mental health services or support from Newport Mind will start to access these provisions.
  2. Young people and the communities they engage in will become more accepting and open to conversations about the mental health and well-being of young people.
  3. Encouraging mental health conversations amongst young men, deprived, BAME and LGBTQ+ communities across Newport, both among young people and with the trusted adults in their lives.
  4. Young people will learn simple tools to self-recognise their own wellbeing to enable preventative steps to build better resilience.

The project is split into two phases. Phase 1 lasting from July to December 2021 will research and develop potential responses to the issue identified. Phase 2 lasting from January to October 2022 will pilot these approaches, evaluate appropriately and share learning for guidance.
