TV and radio presenter, author and Mind ambassador Fearne Cotton has visited a local Spoken Minds workshop to find out more about how the charity supports people living with mental health problems.
Delivered by Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, the programme uses spoken word and performance poetry to enhance wellbeing and aid mental health recovery. Individuals are supported in a group setting to develop confidence, communication and creativity.
Having spoken out about her own experiences of depression, Fearne is determined to break down the stigma around mental health and encourage others to share their own experiences.
Fearne said “I didn’t quite know what to expect, I’d never done spoken word before, but it was just amazing to see how much it really can support wellbeing. The main thing I’ve come away with is that really glorious feeling of connection, you come away really feeling part of something.”
