Enjoy a weekend of cake and live performances at Wales' first 'Depressed Cakefest' from August 30 to September 1 / Joiwch penwythnos o gacenau a pherfformiadau byw yn 'Depressed Cakefest' cyntaf Cymru o Awst 30 i Fedi 1

Depressed Cake Shop Cymru today announced dates for Wales’ firstDepressed Cakefest – a weekend of cakes and live performances held at Cardiff Fashion Quarter (Womanby Street) from 30 August to 1 September.

The Depressed Cake Shop, set up by Emmylou Cakehead, has spawned a network of groups across the world with shops popping up in New York and Kuala Lumpur. It aims to raise awareness of mental health problems as well as vital funds for mental health charities.

The pop-up shops are not typical bake sales as all the cakes sold are grey on the outside and colourful on the inside. The concept aims to symbolise that when depression grips, life can lose all colour but with the correct help and support this colour can once again be brought out.

Ivor Cakehead, spokesperson for the Depressed Cake Shop Cymru, said: “It is a shocking statistic that in any given year, one in four of the population will have a mental health problem, yet there is still stigma and discrimination attached to mental or emotional problems.

“The Depressed Cakefest will not only look, sound and taste good, but will encourage people to talk about their emotional health whilst raising money for Mind Cymru.

“We are amazed and delighted at the support we have received so far and our dedicated volunteers are working hard to make this event a real success.

"However, we're still hopeful for offers of help from bakers, performers, those who are happy to sell cake at the event and maybe even a sound technician. We especially need offers of practical items such as cake ingredients and the loan of furniture and some sound equipment.”

So far, Depressed Cakeshop Cymru has held a number of successful ‘teaser’ sales in Cardiff at KL Canolog on Wellfield Road and Lew’s Coffee Shop in Llandaff North, raising £420 for Mind Cymru. And it hopes to raise even more for the mental health charity at the much anticipated Depressed Cakefest.

Heddiw cyhoeddodd Depressed Cake Shop Cymru ddyddiadau ar gyfer'Depressed Cakefest' - penwythnos o gacennau a pherfformiadau byw a gynhelir yn Cardiff Fashion Quarter (Stryd Womanby) rhwng30 Awst a 1 Medi.

Mae Depressed Cake Shop, a sefydlwyd gan Emmylou Cakehead, wedi bod yn fan cychwyn i rwydwaith o grwpiau ledled y byd, gyda siopau'n ymddangos ledled y DU yn ogystal ag Efrog Newydd a Kuala Lumpur. Ei nod yw codi ymwybyddiaeth o broblemau iechyd meddwl, yn ogystal ag arian hanfodol ar gyfer elusennau iechyd meddwl.

Nid yw’r siopau yn gwerthu cacennau traddodial gan fod pob cacen yn llwyd ar y tu allan ac yn lliwgar tu fewn. Pwrpas hyn yw i symboleiddio bod iselder yn gallu achosi i fywyd colli bob lliw ond gyda help a chymorth gall bywyd fod yn lliwgar unwaith eto.

Dywedodd Ivor Cakehead, llefarydd ar ran Depressed Cake Shop Cymru: "Mae'n ystadegyn brawychus y bydd un o bob pedwar o'r boblogaeth yn cael problem iechyd meddwl mewn unrhyw flwyddyn benodol, eto mae stigma a gwahaniaethu yn dal i fod yn gysylltiedig â phroblemau iechyd meddwl neu emosiynol.

"Nid yn unig y bydd Depressed Cakefest yn edrych, yn swnio ac yn blasu'n dda, bydd hefyd yn annog pobl i siarad am eu hiechyd emosiynol, tra'n codi arian i Mind Cymru.

"Rydym wedi rhyfeddu ac wrth ein boddau gyda'r gefnogaeth a gafwyd hyd yma, ac mae ein gwirfoddolwyr ymroddedig yn gweithio'n galed i sicrhau bod y digwyddiad hwn yn llwyddiant ysgubol.

"Fodd bynnag, mae angen cymorth arnom o hyd gan bobyddion, perfformwyr, y rhai sy'n hapus i werthu cacennau yn y digwyddiad ac effallai hyd yn oed technegydd sain hefyd. Mae angen eitemau ymarferol arnom yn arbennig fel cynhwysion cacennau a dodrefn a chyfarpar sain ar fenthyg."

Hyd yma, mae'r gangen yng Nghymru wedi cynnal sawl arwerthiant 'rhagflas' llwyddiannus gan gynnwys rhai yng Nghaerdydd yn KL Canolog ar Heol Wellfield ac yn Lew's Coffee Shop yn Ystum Taf, gan godi £420 i Mind Cymru. Ac maent yn gobeithio codi mwy ar gyfer yr elusen iechyd meddwl yn ystod 'Depressed Cakefest'.

Mae rhagor o wybodaeth am y digwyddiad a chyfleoedd i wirfoddoli ar gael yn Facebook.com/DepressedCakeShopCymru neu gallwch roi arian yn uniongyrchol ynJustGiving.com/DepressedCakeShopCymru.
