The Blue Light Time to Change pledge

Signing the Blue Light Time to Change pledge will show your commitment to challenge mental health stigma and promote positive wellbeing within your service.

The pledge isn‘t a quality mark, accreditation or endorsement. You don’t have to pass a test or submit a lengthy application. Instead, your pledge commitment is backed by your own action plan, which details the tangible activity you will deliver in your service.

Sign the pledge and you will be joining a growing movement of 400+ employers across different sectors in England who are working to tackle mental health stigma and help keep their staff well for work.

The benefits of signing

By pledging you will help your staff and volunteers feel more able to speak openly about mental health and to seek support when they need it.

It will help to improve mental health awareness within your service, which will better enable your staff and volunteers to look out for themselves, their team and members of the public.

Bigger problems have a better chance of being prevented if staff and volunteers feel able to get support as soon as they need it.

It will empower our officers and staff to talk about mental health and wellbeing confidently and to respond to both colleagues and the public appropriately.

Sign the pledge - employers and groups

We welcome any emergency service employer or voluntary group from the police, search and rescue, fire or ambulance services within England or Wales to sign the pledge. If you're based in Wales then please contact us.

If you're based in England then the first step you need to take is to download our pledge toolkit using the link given below. This will talk you through what signing the pledge involves including:

  • completing your action plan
  • examples of activity other organisations have undertaken
  • the support we will provide you with
  • what the next steps are.

We’ve put what we've learnt from work with 400+ employers into our pledge toolkit, to support you to develop your action plan. This toolkit tells you how to access an action plan template and how to submit your completed action plan to us once you have done it.

If you’re an emergency service employer or voluntary group and would like to pledge, then all the information you need to start the pledge process is in this toolkit.

Please send us your action plan a minimum of four weeks before the preferred date of your pledge signing.
