Submission of an entry is taken as acceptance of all the Terms and Conditions of entry.
1.1 The photography competition is open only to Mind members aged 18 or over, living in the UK.
1.2 Entrants must be Mind members by the entry closing date (10am, Friday 30 July) for their entry to be valid.
1.3 Entries from members of the judging panel, paid Mind staff members, close family members of staff or close family members of the judging panel will not be eligible.
1.4 Participants must not be professional photographers. In the context of this competition, a professional photographer is defined as someone who makes over 50% of their annual income from the sale or publication of their photographs.
2.1 You can enter the competition by submitting your photograph in digital format by email to [email protected]. No other method of entry will be accepted.
2.2 The closing date for all competition entries is 10am, Friday 30 July. Any submissions received after this time will not be entered into the competition.
2.3 To enter the competition you need to take a photograph to illustrate the theme of ‘Through my lens’. The theme is open to your own personal interpretation, but we’re asking for photos that are inspired by your own mental health and wellbeing journey.
2.4 Images can be in colour or in black and white.
2.5 Images submitted must not have been published elsewhere (excluding social media) or have won a prize in any other photographic competition, or be entered into a major competition where the results are still pending.
2.6 All images (from both digital cameras and smartphones) must be a landscape image, high resolution and must be a JPEG file. Maximum file size is 10MB.
2.7 All photographs must be your own work, must not be copied or contain any third party materials including trademarks or trade names and/or content that you do not have permission to use.
2.8 When submitting your photograph, you should provide your name, contact telephone number, membership number if you know it, email address and a brief sentence (maximum 70 words) explaining the inspiration/story behind the photo. We will only use your personal information in relation to the competition (including checking your eligibility to enter it) and will not use it for any other purposes whatsoever. We will not keep this information for longer than is necessary for the operation of the competition.
2.9 You may only send one entry to the competition. If two photos are submitted, only the first one received will be entered.
2.10 The photograph must not contain defamatory, obscene or offensive material, not showcase connotations of violence, racism, discrimination, or be sexual in its nature. Nor can it depict self-harm or suicidal content.
2.11 The photograph must be suitable for publication in the Mind calendar and appropriate for all ages.
2.12 It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the consent of anyone who is identifiable in that image or the consent of their parent/guardian if they are under 16 and that they have been advised of the purpose of the submission and that their photograph may be published by Mind.
2.13 The photographer may only enter individually and not as part of a team.
3.1 All entries that meet the competition criteria will be reviewed by Mind staff to create a shortlist of 10 photos.
3.2 All valid entries will be judged on the following criteria:
• Strength of the theme
• Originality and creativity
• Composition and technical ability
• Suitability for inclusion in the Mind calendar
3.3 The overall winner and two runners-up will be chosen by a panel of independent judges. The judge’s decision will be made on or before 13 August 2021. The decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
4.1 The winner and two runners-up will be notified by Mind’s Membership Team via email the week commencing 16 August.
4.2 The winning photos will be published on the Mind website in September 2021 and in the Mind 2022 calendar.
4.3 The winning entrants will be asked by the Mind Membership team about their winning photos and be featured in the members’ Enewsletter, Mind Membership News magazine and on Mind’s social media.
5.1 The winner will receive: Inclusion in the Mind 2022 calendar, a £50 Love2Shop Voucher, a framed print of their winning photo, a copy of the Hold Still photography book and Mind goodie bag.
5.2 The two runners-up will receive: Inclusion in the Mind 2022 calendar, a copy of the Hold Still photography book and a Mind goodie bag.
5.3 The prizes cannot be exchanged or transferred by you and cannot be redeemed by you for cash or any other prizes.
6.1 All announcements in relation to the Mind membership photography competition will be published on the Mind website.
6.2 The competition will be administered by the Mind Membership team. By entering the competition, the photographer consents to their name and their photo to be published on the Mind website, member Enewsletter and social media channels.
6.3 We take no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete or cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason. Proof of delivery of the entry is not proof of receipt.
6.4 Mind will only process the personal data you have provided to administer the photography competition and your Mind membership. Personal details will not be passed on to third parties.
6.6 These Terms and Conditions are available on request by calling Mind on 020 8215 2243 or on our website. Should the terms and conditions be amended, these avenues will be updated for entrants review. If printed, this is not a controlled document.
6.7 The winning entrants grant Mind all necessary and relevant licenses and permissions in relation to the publication of their entries in Mind publications, www.mind.org.uk (although the publishing of any entries in or on any of Mind's publications shall be at the absolute discretion of Mind. Mind shall be under no obligation to publish such entries) and elsewhere at Mind's discretion. The winning photographer and runners-up also agree to take part in any reasonable post-draw publicity required by Mind including use of the entry as outlined in clause 7.3 and 7.4.
6.8 Mind is obliged to publish that a valid award took place. To comply with this requirement, Mind will publish or make available the surname, county and/or the winning entry of the winner. Mind may also publish your personal information to comply with its legal and regulatory obligations. 6.9 Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions and to have agreed to be bound by them when entering the competition.
7.1 Entrants remain the copyright holder to any images submitted by themselves.
7.2 Winning entrants agree to grant the Mind Membership Photography Competition to a nonexclusive irrevocable licence to reproduce, enlarge, publish and exhibit for any purpose related to the competition in any medium, including print and digital.
7.3 This includes, but is not restricted to; exhibiting, competition calendar, for use in press and on websites. The Mind Membership Photography Competition will not use awarded entries outside the scope of the photographic competition.
7.4 The entrants agree to Mind free usage sublicensing the shortlisted images for press articles or any other external communications related to the competition.
7.5 After the winners have been announced entries will be deleted, apart from those that have been shortlisted.
7.6 The Mind Membership Photography Competition will try to ensure the photographers will be credited on all mediums. In the event of inadvertent omission of the credit, Mind will endeavour to correct where possible, but the photographer agrees that Mind are not to be liable.
7.7 The entrant is responsible for any claim made by a third party against the submission.
8.1 The information given in these Terms and Conditions is correct, but Mind reserves the right to change any of it without prior notice. By entering the competition, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. Any breach of these Terms by an entrant will void their entry. If a breach has occurred, but is discovered after the award of a prize, then the organisers may require the return of that prize.
