About the Newport Marathon Festival

Mind and Mind in Gwent

We are so excited to have partnered with Mind in Gwent and Run4Wales to be able to offer you places in the Newport Marathon Festival!

The ABP Newport Marathon is a firm favourite in the Welsh running calendar, boasting one of the flattest marathon courses in the UK.

Its route offers iconic landmarks like the city’s Transporter Bridge and the stunning scenery of the Gwent Levels, with its coastal wildlife and picturesque medieval villages.

You can take part in the 10k, the half marathon or the full marathon! Lace your trainers up and run for better mental health.

Why you should support Mind

Every mile you run will help support people like Carl, who sought therapy after experiencing depressive symptoms. Running has always been a huge part of Carl's life, but after his experience with depression, he has gone on to raise thousands of pounds for charities, including Mind, through running challenges.

I go for a run when I have something on my mind, and by the time I get back it tends to be resolved.

FAQs

All proceeds from the Newport Marathon Festival will be split 50/50 between Mind and Mind in Gwent.

Local Minds offer mental health services in communities across England and Wales. At national Mind, we work with our network of over 100 local Minds to deliver mental health services to anyone who needs them.

Each local Mind is unique. They understand the needs of their community and they tailor their services to match.

As well as delivering services, local Minds:

  • Help to plan local mental health services
  • Campaign on local mental health issues and join in with national campaigns
  • Change attitudes towards mental health in their area

We change minds across England and Wales by making mental health an everyday priority. By standing up to the injustices – in healthcare, in work, in law – which make life harder for those of us with mental health problems.

We support minds – by offering help whenever you might need it through our information, advice and local services.

And we connect minds. Bringing together an unstoppable network of individuals and communities – people who care about mental health to make a difference.

Mind in Gwent is a mental health charity that was formed by the merging of three local and independent Mind associations, namely Newport Mind, Monmouthshire Mind and Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent Mind. Together as one charity, we are using our shared experience and knowledge to help people in our diverse communities with their mental health struggles.

We provide a wide range of support and services, and work with diverse communities across Gwent. Our services include wellbeing groups for adults, children and young people's services (including group and one on one support in and outside of schools), housing and tenancy support, warm hubs, rural working/farmers' support and counselling. We run a range of projects to help reach those in our communities in need of support.

We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

By registering for the Newport Marathon Festival, you are committing to having raised at least 50% of your minimum fundraising target 4 weeks before the event and 100% 4 weeks after the event. We understand this sounds daunting, but please don't worry. Our fabulous fundraising team will be on hand to provide you with advice, tips and tricks to keep you on track and hit your target. For more information, please read our terms and conditions.

Where does the money go?

£420 could help pay our Infoline's phone bill for an entire week.

£760 could help us keep Mind's online community, Side by Side, open for 1 day.
