Millions of people across the nation will be talking and thinking about it. This is the time to step up the fight for mental health. That means fighting for change, for fairness, for respect, and for life-changing support.

Louise's story

“Before my breakdown, I had never suffered with a mental health problem.

“I was a qualified accountant, running my own successful business and raising a young family. But a series of traumatic events in a short space of time became too much for me to cope with. And right now, the benefits system is not set up to support us properly.

“I’ve never felt as ashamed as I was made to feel during my benefits assessment. I was judged on the person I used to be, not the person I am now. It made me realise how much I’m not that person anymore. That was devastating.”

Join the fight to reform the benefits system

Louise’s story is one that’s being repeated day in and day out for so many people. They're facing a system that makes it too hard for them to get the support they need. All of us should be able to turn to a benefits system that’s there when we need it. We should know that we’ll get a fair hearing, that we’ll be listened to and taken seriously.

Benefits should give us the security we need to focus on moving forward with our lives. But too often the process of trying to get that help is making people more unwell.

With a few simple changes, the benefits system can be the force for good we all need it to be. With your help, we will demand the UK Government give people choices over the method of their assessment. We will hold the UK Government to account and stand up for those who feel they have no one on their side.
