Thank you for joining the Mind Machu Picchu Team!

It is great to have your support and we look forward to helping you raise as much money as possible and get ready for this incredible challenge.

You have been invited to join our private Facebook group for the trek.

To help make your membership of the group both enjoyable and beneficial we have a few house rules and ask that you spend a few moments reading these and putting them into practise throughout your time as a group member.

By joining the group, or remaining a group member, you’re deemed to be in agreement with these rules. If you've got any questions or comments, drop us an email at [email protected] and we'll do our best to help.

This group has been set up as a ‘Closed Group’ which is defined within Facebook guidelines as ‘Closed Group – anyone can find the group and see who’s in it. Only members can see posts.’ Members can request to join the group; Mind will only approve membership of people who are registered to take part in the Machu Picchu Trek for Mind in 2019; and only members are then able to view posts and add comments.

This group could have up to 12 people and therefore it may be you know other members from your own personal and/or professional networks and you should be aware that they will be able to view anything you choose to share here.

Group purpose

This group is intended as a space for Mind supporters to share their experiences about fundraising for Mind including ideas for fundraising and training.

It's great to share experiences and ideas but this space isn't designed to facilitate ongoing mental health support.

We know that online community support can be really valuable and Mind has another online community called Elefriends – It's a space for members to be open about their mental health and they're all very supportive of each other. It's also moderated around the clock if you feel you need support throughout the night.

Group administration

Mind are responsible for administration of this group and we will do everything we can to ensure the safety of each member within the limits of our monitoring periods.

As the purpose of this group is to support you during your training and fundraising for the Mind Machu Picchu trek team, the group will be closed three months after the trek has taken place. You will be notified about this closure date at least four weeks in advance.

As a member of Mind Fundraising Facebook group I will:

  • Contact Mind staff on [email protected] with specific questions or queries regarding your fundraising as Mind won’t be able to respond to direct questions about your fundraising in the group
  • Treat others the way I would like to be treated
  • Give as well as ask – we all need a helping hand from time to time and as fundraisers we all have fundraising experience and advice to share
  • Let the Mind team know if I have seen something in the group that worries me by emailing [email protected]
  • Reach out for help outside this group if I need it e.g. via the 'I need urgent help' section at

As a member of a Mind Fundraising group I won’t:

  • Make personal attacks or harass other members
  • Share personal contact details on the group pages
  • Swear or use offensive language
  • Post content which might not be safe for other members e.g. details of self-harm or suicidal plans
  • Give “expert” advice regarding mental health problems. There is rarely an answer to one problem and it is best to refer a member who is seeking advice to the Mind Infoline on 0300 123 3393, or the Mind website at
  • Promote other businesses or charities.

The Mind team will:

  • Post content that is relevant to your fundraising, training and marketing
  • Respond to any upsetting or unsafe content posts efficiently
  • Listen to concerns that you may have about the group and where appropriate take further action, such as ask an individual to take down a post that may be offensive or unsafe
  • Reserve the right to block members who break the house rules

The Mind team won’t:

  • Monitor the group outside the hours of 09:00 -17:00 on a week day, or at all at the weekends and public holidays
