Striker Boy by Jonny Zucker

The book is about a teenage boy, Nat, who aspires to be a footballer, and is in fact a very talented player – he gets signed up to a premiership team and is their last hope to save them from relegation…but the clincher is that he’s (secretly) only 13 years old.

If I’m honest, Striker Boy is not the sort of book which is aimed at someone like me (30-something female with zero knowledge of football!), but despite this I genuinely really enjoyed it.

Following Nat’s relationship with his father and how he has to navigate the complex football industry kept me gripped, and I also learnt a fair bit about football along the way! It is a real page turner, and definitely a good Christmas present for young football fans.

Striker boy has been recently republished by Jonny’s wife, Fiona, after he took his own life.  From every sale, £1.40  goes to Mind. Fiona wrote a blog for Mind on Jonny’s journey which you can read here.
