Let me be Frank by Frank Bruno

Former Heavy Weight Champion, Frank Bruno, recently released a book telling his moving story about his battle with mental health problems, specifically bi-polar disorder.  He describes his experience in a mental health facility, taking medication, the impact on his family, friends and career and how he has managed to regain stability despite being in the public eye.

I found reading about his experience of being sectioned and also the effect of medication that he had to take extremely powerful. Some of the stories he tells are really terrible. It is a testament to how personal a person’s mental health journey can be and what works for some might not work for others.

However, through the difficult times, his determination and resilience shines through. In particular, it is fascinating to see the role that boxing plays in helping him with this.

Although there are some very dark experiences he shares, it is delivered in a charming and honest way.
