West Sussex Mind – sessional mental health worker

We're looking for experienced, enthusiastic and resilient mental health workers who are able to offer flexible cover to help us run this vital out of hours service. The Staying Well team offer a safe and supportive service for people who are struggling to cope when other mental health services are not available. The service is open 5pm-10.30pm on weekdays and 12 noon-10.30pm at weekends. Individuals are able to “drop in” for support within these hours.

What you'll do

In this role you'll:

  • Support service users in their recovery journey
  • Offer a listening ear and empathy, as well as interventions which enable individuals to manage their emotional distress
  • Offer structured support to empower individuals to recognise their current strengths and develop self-care and coping strategies
  • Signpost people to other local organisations

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • Significant knowledge of working with people with mental health needs
  • Broad knowledge, proven skills and/or training in working with service users on a one-to-one basis 
  • Ability to model good practice and lead staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work with service users to construct good assessments of needs for services/personal development
  • A good knowledge and understanding of working in groups and group dynamics
  • Knowledge of and a commitment to user-led services and able to facilitate a recovery focus model
  • Good personal resilience and ability to work calmly to problem solve and manage a range of complex issues and situations
