Tameside, Oldham and Glossop Mind – school counsellor (MHST)

We have an opportunity for MHST School Counsellors to join the organisation on a permanent basis. Reporting to the MHST Project Manager, the MHST School Counsellors will be responsible for offering person-centred, one-to-one counselling in partnership with the NHS Mental Health Support Team. 

What you'll do

In this role you'll:

  • Undertake client consultations meeting with parents, teachers and children to assess suitability for the service
  • Provide one-to-one counselling
  • Work flexibly to deliver sessions outside of education hours (during school holidays for example)
  • Manage a caseload of clients
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of client case notes and the service data on client system
  • Manage incoming/outgoing referrals and waiting lists in collaboration with schools' Mental Health Leads
  • Assess and manage client risk and safeguarding issues
  • Work closely with Pennine Care, school leads and agencies

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • Experience of working in a school setting
  • Experience of managing your own one-to-one counselling caseload of young people
  • Experience of providing support services to members of the public, especially children and parents
  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited counselling course
  • Good knowledge of MHST and whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing
