Newport Mind – volunteering officer: youth engagement

This role will support the Wellbeing Ambassador project during the exciting next chapter of its development as we roll the project out across Gwent in line with the Mind in Gwent strategy. The project recruits, trains and engages young volunteers aged 14-25 years. 

What you'll do

In this role you'll:

  • Recruit and train young people as Wellbeing Ambassadors across Gwent
  • Support the creation of a scalable model of volunteering which can be utilised by other Local Minds across Wales
  • Support the school wellness networking days, Community of Practice, and support the engagement of Wellbeing Ambassadors in the Youth Voice Group
  • Coordinate the involvement of Wellbeing Ambassadors in co-delivering the wellbeing groups in partnership with Families First, and providing PEERS training in line with Families First project outcomes
  • Continue to support the volunteers' existing work including the youth-led podcast and social media campaigns

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • Experience of working with volunteers, young people and communities
  • Experience of recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers
  • Direct or indirect experience of mental health problems
  • Ability to involve young people in activities in creative and engaging ways
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a number of teams and partnerships
