Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge – peer project lead

The postholder will offer support and recovery guidance to individuals experiencing common and severe mental health problems. You'll use your own life experience of mental distress and recovery or as a carer as a template. The peer worker team will consist of five peer workers and the project worker lead who will give day-to-day leadership and support to the team.

What you'll do

In this role you'll:

  • Ensure that the team are represented at all network meetings
  • Work with a varied caseload of clients in one-to-one and group settings
  • Give practical and emotional support to the peer workers and support them to use their personal life experience of mental health issues in an intentional and professional way to provide insight and motivational support in achieving recovery goals
  • Set up monthly meetings with the team and incorporate reflective learning into these meetings
  • Develop effective relationships with the clinical lead, the mental health teams and a range of external organisations and agencies

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Lived experience of mental health service use as a service user or a carer
  • Knowledge of NHS and third sector mental health services
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and conditions, and of the challenges and issues that are likely to affect those who experience such difficulties, including self-harm
  • Experience of working with people facing a range of barriers and social issues including homelessness and substance misuse
  • Understanding of peer support and personal recovery approaches
  • Demonstrable ability to engage with people from all backgrounds and a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion practices
