Mind in Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster – peer support worker

We are looking for a peer support worker who has their own lived experience of mental health issues to inspire hope by sharing life experiences and lessons learnt as a person in recovery. You'll join the wider Peer Support In-Reach Service and primarily work in a well-supported inpatient ward at the Springfield Hospital in Tooting.

What you'll do

In this role you'll: 

  • Support patients while they're on the unit, working towards setting goals to combat social isolation, identifying their interests and helping facilitate their engagement with community activities
  • Further to their discharge from hospital, you'll support them for up to 6 weeks in the community
  • Identify with them how to access support in times of distress and various support networks within their area

About you

We're looking for someone with: 

  • Good level of general education to GCSE/NVQ level 2 or equivalent, including English and Maths
  • Lived experience of mental health issues
  • Experience of working, communicating and interacting with a wide variety of people in a similar environment or as part of a community-based service
  • Understanding of peer support
  • A good understanding of mental health related issues and difficulties through your own experiences
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills and an ability to form peer relationships
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, patience, compassion, and sensitivity when supporting people in mental health distress
