Dorset Mind – connected minds practitioner

We're looking for someone who can coordinate and run our Connected Minds programme for young people with low school attendance and associated mental health concerns.

The role is community based across various locations in Dorset and will involve running groups, liaising with schools and managing a caseload of young people.

What you'll do

In this role you'll:

  • Establish an excellent working relationship with local primary, middle and secondary schools in Dorset
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with teachers, pastoral staff and parents to promote the service and to encourage referrals
  • Establish good working relationships with venues used to deliver the programme including carrying out risk assessments, safety checks and setting up a comfortable environment for the young people
  • Support in the planning, setting up and delivery of the Connected Minds programme in up to four locations across Dorset
  • Lead and facilitate the sessions with the help of Dorset Mind volunteers

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • Relevant qualification for the role equivalent to NVQ level 3 in health and social care
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions, appropriate evidenced treatment models, coping skills, psychoeducation, self-management tools and therapeutic approaches
  • Understanding of how to promote and maintain good mental health
  • Competent IT skills including MS Office 365 and video conferencing software such as MS Teams or Zoom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to actively listen, empathise, negotiate, be assertive and mediate when necessary
  • Experience working in a similar setting
  • Experience working with young people (aged 11-25) with mental health difficulties
