Derbyshire Mind – support worker

Are you caring, calming, and compassionate? Are you looking for a rewarding new role where you can truly make a big difference in your local community?

We're looking for someone who can deliver compassionate, person-centred support to people with urgent emotional wellbeing needs. You'll provide people with a non-clinical, community-based alternative to A&E.

We're looking to recruit 4 supportive and caring individuals with a passion for helping people in need. You'll deliver non-clinical mental health and wellbeing support at our new crisis support drop-in service in Swadlincote.

The service is friendly and supportive, and offers non-clinical support for adults who need immediate help with their mental health or emotional wellbeing.

Located in Buxton, Ripley and Swadlincote, the services offer out-of-hours mental health help, support and signposting in a relaxed and comfortable community environment. The services are open on Friday evenings, Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, all year round.

What you'll do

You will:

  • Deliver the service to clients who arrive in emotional distress
  • Offer active listening without judgement
  • Assess, monitor and support people on a one-to-one basis and through group work
  • Alternate the role of designated 'shift leader', which includes allocating responsibilities to the team over the course of the shift, liaising with on-call teams, making sure admin is done, and leading a team wellbeing check-in at the end of each shift

About you

You'll be a caring and resilient team-player, who's committed to our values and to supporting individuals in need. You'll have recent experience working with people from wide-ranging backgrounds.

You'll be based in Swadlincote town centre, where the service is delivered. You'll need to do some travel around Swadlincote and Derbyshire as part of training and delivering the role. You'll need a driving license and access to a car as the service runs at night times when there's no public transport.
