Derbyshire Mind – crisis support volunteer

Do you live in or near Buxton, Ripley or Swadlincote? Are you interested in volunteering with a supportive organisation such as Derbyshire Mind? Are you available on Friday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons?

Derbyshire Mind's successful crisis support drop-in service operates in Buxton, Swadlincote and Ripley. These local services offer support to adults who are experiencing or nearing a mental health crisis in a safe and welcoming non-clinical environment. We're looking for reliable and supportive volunteers who feel passionate about helping people in need to join us. 

What you'll do

In this role you'll:

  • Facilitate the smooth running of Derbyshire Mind's crisis support drop-in service by presenting a warm and friendly and non-judgemental presence
  • Welcome and support attendees, assist the support workers, and offer support to help attendees engage with various calming activities

About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • Ability to attend training meetings that may be held on weekdays, evenings or weekends
  • Willingness to complete additional training as required
  • Passion for offering a high-quality, welcoming service to people experiencing distress or mental health crisis
  • Open-minded attitude and ability to see things from different perspectives, including respecting diverse values and beliefs
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a friendly and supportive tone, and listen to others in a supportive, non-judgmental way without feeling the need to fix
