Friends in Need Online Closure

The Friends in Need online community closed on Monday 10 December 2018. It’s been a difficult decision, but the team are currently working towards creating a new and improved online community that better meets people's needs.

If you'd like to be informed of any project updates please email [email protected] to register your interest.

We understand how important the support provided through the Friends in Need community is, and want to reassure you that the offline groups will continue as normal.

Friends in Need FAQs

Why are you closing the FiN community?

We are closing Friends in Need  as part of a wider project to improve our online communities.

Members of the Friends in Need family told us what they want from the online community and how the support could be improved.

We're proud of Friends in Need however, the digital world moves fast and the current platform will not allow us to make these changes or the changes we need to do in order to maintain the system. This is why we are closing the site before the new offering.

We’re working towards an improved online community where everyone can feel supported by peers, whether they have a mental health problem or know someone that does.

I'm worried about losing my support network. Where can I go for support now FiN is closing?

We understand how important the support you’ve received through the Friends in Need community is, and want to reassure you that the offline groups will continue as normal. We’d encourage you to explore other online communities such as Elefriends.

The connections you’ve made within the community won’t be lost. You can swap contact details or set up your own private Facebook or WhatsApp groups. We’re here to make this process as easy as possible and you can email [email protected] for advice on maintaining your support network.

There is also a range of face-to-face groups to explore through Mind's Peer Support Directory which you can view here.

What will you do with my data? Can I still access who I was talking to?

On 10th December 2018 all information stored on Friends in Need will be deleted. This includes any messages you've posted and any contact details you provided when you first set up your account.

The connections you’ve made within the community won’t be lost. You can swap contact details or set up your own private Facebook or WhatsApp groups. We’re here to make this process as easy as possible and you can email [email protected] for advice on maintaining your support network.
