Thank You

In June 2014 we launched our election campaign. We wanted you to help us make sure that every party, every MP, and every parliamentary candidate understood just why mental health is so important, and what they should do about it.

We have been overwhelmed by your support for the campaign.

Thousands of you have taken actions over the course of the year, and the impact on party policies is clear.

Here are some of the highlights of the year.

We reached thousands of parliamentary candidates and nearly all MPs

Our Voices of Mind have been at the heart of it

  • Between them, the Voices of Mind have met over 30 MPs including Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Deputy PM Nick Clegg, Care Minister Norman Lamb, and Shadow Disabilities Minister Kate Green.
  • They’ve made eight short films - one of which went viral. They also attended the party conferences, organised debates and spoke to mental health trusts, clinical commissioning groups and police forces.
  • Becki Luscombe was awarded one of Nick Clegg’s mental health hero awards and we couldn’t be prouder of her achievements.

There were some victories along the way

  • In October 2014, a few weeks after we campaigned for better access to talking therapies, the Government announced that, for the first time ever, there will be waiting time standards for talking therapies. From April 2015, 75 per cent of people should get treatment within 6 weeks.
  • Also in October 2014, the Government agreed to fund the Time to Change campaign for another year.
  • £1.25bn of new funding was announced in March’s budget, to improve children’s, veterans’, and new mums’ mental health services.

And all of the main parties are talking about mental health

All of the party manifestos had a substantial section on mental health - check out our at-a-glance guide. This is a really significant achievement and it certainly wasn’t the case in the 2010 elections. With your help, we’ve truly made mental health an election issue.
