Vulnerable Migrants

Since 2015, we’ve been working alongside people from migrant communities and the organisations who support them to use storytelling to explore their feeling towards mental health services. It has helped us to identify barriers to support and explore models of engagement.

We are sharing our insight and learning to help Local Health Boards plan services for these hard-to-reach groups.

I am happy for the meeting, conversation and support. It made me think that today will be a better day.

Working with Oxfam Cymru, Oasis Cardiff and the Sherman Theatre, our 'Telling it like it is' project gathered insights from refugees, asylum seekers and their supporters about their mental health. We hope to highlight the human impact of the refugee crisis on people that have sought sanctuary in Wales.

The stories were filmed and shared to raise awareness and help others understand the issues and barriers people from these communities face when addressing mental health problems.

With Mind North East Wales, we delivered the 'Enjoy your baby' course to support new mums and dads from migrant communities. The course helps people to improve their feeling when low, worried or hopeless and learn skills to tackle problems in their lives.

Moving to the UK can put a strain on families who no longer have community to provide the social, moral and family support. We found that people were very receptive to as much information and guidance as possible to help them navigate a new society.
