About the role

Do you want to help us to help parents with

young children?

1 in 10 new mum’s will develop post-natal depression and many parents with young children may have or can develop other mental health problems too. Based in Council Family Centres in Worthing, Bognor Regis and Chichester our Families in Mind Service works in partnership to provide support to parents prior to having a child, once their child is born and then until their child or children reaches school age.

We are looking to employ a peer support worker who has had personal experience of caring for their own children alongside some difficulties with their mental health. The peer support worker will help to run regular well-being and social group activities and sessions and give individual support to parents to help them develop coping skills and achieve their personal goals. Alongside having relevant personal experience the successful candidate will need to be able to evidence through the recruitment process that they:

  • Are a confident and effective communicator with strong listening skills
  • Can undertake work tasks and activities to a high standard without constant supervision
  • Reflect on their work, giving and receiving feedback with a willingness to learn and develop their knowledge and skills
  • Has good IT skills and can use email and internet effectively

Some relevant work experience would be an advantage.

There is some flexibility in the hours and days worked. These would generally be on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, within school hours (10am – 3pm). The successful candidate would not be expected to attend each site every week, although a presence would be needed over the month. Ability to travel is essential and being a car driver would be preferred. All travel expenses would be reimbursed.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
