In 2004 Mind's Ward Watch campaign revealed while for some patients the hospital environment helped recovery, for others the environment was inhumane instead of therapeutic. This report presents findings from surveys carried out among service users during 2006. It shows how factors ranging from the appearance of a ward to patients' dignity, privacy and safety from abuse can affect the effectiveness of a service in having positive impacts on patients' mental health. Includes a list of recommendations for mental health wards.
