This booklet is designed to answer some of the more common questions concerning mental health and the police. It describes the situations in which the police may become involved, what support is available, what procedures the professionals should follow, and who will should be involved at each stage. Relevant legal definitions are included. Fully revised in 2008 to reflect new legislation, in particular amendments made to the Mental Health Act 1983 by the Mental Heath Act 2007.
