Guestbook Signed by Stars of Edinburgh Fringe 2012
Auctioned for Mind

A book filled with 100 names of the famous and the soon-to-be famous from Edinburgh Fringe 2012 - including David Hasselhoff, Suggs, Phill Jupitus and Rhod Gilbert - is on sale in an online auction to raise money for Mind.

During Edinburgh Fringe 2012, award-winning comedy duo Lizzy Mace and Juliette Burton were on a mission. As well as performing two shows a day ('Rom Com Con' and 'Heartbreak Hotel') the girls were focused on finding contributors for their Heartbreak Hotel Guestbook. All guests on their Edinburgh Fringe comedy chat show 'Heartbreak Hotel' signed and wrote advice on how to get over heartbreak in this exciting book. Lizzy and Juliette also asked other stars of the Fringe to add to the guestbook.

Guestbook Contributors Include:
David Hasselhoff, Phill Jupitus, Rhod Gilbert, Alan Davies, Josie Long, Stephen K Amos, Suggs, Sean Hughes, Hardeep Singh Kohli, Daniel Kitson, Sam Lloyd (aka Ted from "Scrubs"), Sam Simmons, Shappi Khorsandi, Greg Proops, Rhys Darby (aka Murray from "Flight of the Conchords"), Jarred Christmas, Viz magazine co-founder Simon Donald,Simon Munnery.

The online auction went live on eBay on 17th October 2012 and will close at midday on 27th October 2012 – exactly 2 months after the Edinburgh Fringe 2012 ended.

Both Lizzy Mace and Juliette Burton have experience of mental health issues. For Burton this involves a lifelong history including depression, chronic eating disorders and psychosis.

On 5th August 2012, the opening weekend of Edinburgh Fringe 2012, Burton celebrated a decade since she was sectioned under the mental health act. Burton has been an inpatient and outpatient of mental health wards and clinics since she was 14. Still in therapy, Burton continues to work hard on her mental health challenges.

Caroline Corr, Head of Public Fundraising at Mind said: Juliette and Lizzy are truly inspirational. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to raising both awareness and vital funds for Mind and the 1 in 4 people who experience mental health problems every year. Mind works tirelessly to stamp out the stigma that sadly still surrounds mental health and it is heartening to see so many celebrities sign The Heartbreak Hotel guest book and in turn show their support. We wish Juliette and Lizzy the best of luck for the auction and thank them for their ongoing commitment.

Juliette Burton said: “The decade since being sectioned has been a long road of recovery and I've met many people who have different responses to my problems. I'm encouraged that attitudes are changing but we hope we can change them a bit more with efforts like this auction. We want to get people talking about heartbreak but also about what happens when heartbreak isn't dealt with properly and can turn into something more serious…

Lizzy Mace said: "I am really excited to be supporting Mind. Combining my two loves - comedy and charity - especially a charity so close to my own heart, will make this  particularly special for me. The timing of our Hotel Guestbook Auction idea fits perfectly and naturally with Juliette's own personal history, and I am so proud to count such a brave, inspirational - and downright gorgeous - person among my closest friends."

ENDS

Mace & Burton
Lizzy Mace and Juliette Burton met as actor-members of the Cambridge scriptwriting forum, WRiTEON! They began writing together at a stand-up comedy workshop in 2010. Since discovering a shared love of all-things-confused, and a shared confusion of all-things-love, a light-hearted romp through the rom coms was the natural choice for their first offering as a double-act. A holiday for the heavy-hearted was a clear progression for their second show together.

Rom Com Con rated as one of the Top 5 Free Shows at the Edinburgh Fringe 2012 - The List magazine and one of the Top 10 True-Life Comedy Shows - Chortle. Award winners at Brighton Fringe 2012. Number 4 on Edtwinge.com mid-Fringe and ended the Fringe at number 6 on Edtwinge.com, performed on MacAulay and Co on BBC Radio Scotland.
