Better deal for people with experience of mental distress

Posted Saturday 18 July 2009

Jonathan Morgan AM is leading on trying to provide additional rights for people living in Wales who experience mental distress, through a Legislative Competence Order.

What he and his political colleagues across all parties want to do is to give the right to people living in Wales to assessment, treatment and advocacy services when they experience mental distress, rather than just for those who are detained under the Mental Health Act.

Currently the proposed Legislative Competence Order for Mental Health is being scrutinised by the Welsh Affairs Committee at Westminster. Jonathan Morgan gave evidence on Thursday 2 July, Mind Cymru on Thursday 9 July and the Health Minister for Wales on Thursday 16 July.  Watch this space for further news.
