Putting an end to laws that discriminate
Posted Wednesday 29 August 2012
The Mental Health (Discrimination) Bill aims to put an end to laws that still discriminate against people who have experienced mental health problems. We need your support in making sure the Bill becomes law and today we’re launching a film about how you can help.

Gavin Barwell MP introduced the Bill to the House of Commons in the summer and it will be debated on Friday 14 September. It will overturn old, discriminatory laws that restrict the rights of people with mental health problems to sit on juries or be company directors. Gavin Barwell’s Bill will also overturn a law saying MPs who have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act must automatically lose their seat.
We see the Bill as a very important step in removing the stigma and discrimination that surrounds mental health.
We want you to email and tweet your MP asking them to attend the debate and support this Bill.
