Something old, something new: Mind shops gear up to celebrate the Royal Wedding

Posted Wednesday 27 April 2011

Mind’s 119 charity shops are marking the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton by asking people from across England and Wales to pop in to their local branch with their wedding-wear donations.

Shopping at charity shops for wedding dresses and outfits is becoming increasingly popular for those who want to wed in style but don’t have a regal budget. It’s also a really easy way of fulfilling the wedding tradition of wearing ‘something old’ – a wedding custom designed to bring brides good luck.

Mind charity shops are looking for anything from wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses, groom or best man suits, ties and pins, to ladies accessories such as hats and gloves. The shops are also keen to accept unwanted items that could make perfect wedding gifts to adorn any happy couple’s palace such as gravy boats, photo frames or vases.

Mind shops Managing Director Andrew Vale said:

As royal wedding fever grips the nation, we hope that people will get into the spirit and donate their wedding outfits and gifts to their local Mind shop or pop in to their local branch to pick up a bargain.

All brides-to-be want to feel like a princess on their big day and we’re appealing to ladies to part with their beautiful gowns to help us raise money to support people with mental health problems.

We’re also keen to receive other pre-loved items from bridesmaid dresses to hats and shoes to help make someone else’s wedding day extra special. And don’t worry if you do not have anything wedding-themed as we are always happy to accept other quality clothes and bric and brac.

Donating or shopping with Mind is a fantastic way for people to do something charitable and feel a part of a landmark event. We are sure that it would get the royal seal of approval!

The money raised by Mind’s shops is an invaluable source of funding for the mental health charity. Proceeds go to fund critical work such as our Mind infoline, information and advice resources and the campaigning Mind does to secure a better life for people with mental health problems.
