Benefits campaign stepping up

Posted Friday 13 August 2010

Our work on the welfare and benefits system is gathering pace as the Government reveals more of its plans for welfare reform. As reported previously, Mind’s Chief Executive will sit on the Scrutiny Panel for the independent review of the Work Capability Assessment, to ensure that the concerns of people with experience of mental distress are taken account of in this process.

That same review is calling for evidence from people who have had contact with the Work Capability Assessment. We encourage anyone with experience in this area to download the call for evidence form and submit a response by the closing date of 10 September. Mind will also be responding to the call for evidence and you can help to shape and strengthen our submission by filling in our online survey by 25 August.

Our work in this area is built on the experiences of contact with the benefits system that people have passed on to us. If you have a story about any type of benefit or back-to-work scheme then you can share it here.

We are expecting more details of the new Work Programme to emerge soon, followed by a White Paper in the autumn and a Bill in the new year. The support and input of our supporters and campaigners will be vital in our response to the progress of the reform. Keep an eye on our Take action page for ways that you can be involved.
