Mind comments on the execution of Akmal Shaikh

Posted: Tuesday 29 December 2009

Mind’s Chief Executive Paul Farmer said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the unjust execution of Akmal Shaikh in China and offer our sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time. It is devastating that China failed to take into account Akmal’s severe mental health problems and throughout the process denied him access to a proper medical assessment. As we enter a new decade, it is alarming that certain parts of the world are still so far behind in recognising mental health problems.”
