Mind comments on Queen's Speech

Posted Tuesday 23 November 2004

Richard Brook, Chief Executive of Mind, said today:

"At Mind we are glad that the issues of mental capacity and disability discrimination are to be addressed in this Parliament; however, we remain committed to improving these Bills on behalf of people with mental health problems."

"Mind will also continue its campaign to secure fundamental changes to the Draft Mental Health Bill, as at present we believe the proposed legislation does not move us towards a compassionate and effective mental healthcare system. Furthermore, while we agree with the need for more choice and power for patients, promises of this kind will remain meaningless until there is a significant improvement in the provision of basic services to people with mental health problems."
