Wales sees step forward in support for people who want to speak out
Posted Monday 2 April 2012
Independent Mental Health Advocacy is extended. From 2 April 2012 anyone in Wales who is in hospital for their mental health problem can ask for an Independent Mental Health Advocate (IMHA) to help them get their voice heard.
The Welsh Government has started the new advocacy support for people in hospital after much consultation and planning. It's important that people with mental health problems get advocacy support as often they find it hard to have their voice heard.
If you know someone who is in hospital at the moment because of their mental health, tell them about the new scheme and ask the staff to give you and them information about how they access the advocate.
To find out more about the support that people can get from an Independent Mental Health Advocate (IMHA) go to the Welsh Government website for information about Delivering the Independent Mental Health Advocacy Service in Wales
If you use the new service, please let us know what your experience is like. You can email Ruth Coombs or write to her at
