Mind Cymru: out and about with the Elephant in the Room

Posted: Friday 23 September 2011

Over the summer, Mind Cymru visited two of the major events in Wales – the Royal Welsh Show and the National Eisteddfod.  The Elephant in the Room was our special guest!

The Royal Welsh Show is one of the largest and most prestigious agricultural shows in the UK, attracting international visitors, while the Eisteddfod is also a major annual event comprised of an eclectic mixture of culture, music, visual arts and activities. The Eisteddfod is one of the world's greatest festivals, playing an important role in the life of the nation by promoting the Welsh language and arts.

This year, our team of staff and volunteers were joined by the Elephant in the Room, to reaise awareness of mental health issues and helping to get people talking about mental health at work, because it exists but too often it is ignored. We think some problems are too big to ignore.

The Elephant, accompanied by five smaller blue elephant friends, certainly got people talking and attracted followers to the Mind Cymru stands at both events.

At the Eisteddfod, Mind Cymru also showcased artwork submitted by people with mental health problems living in Wales, celebrating the achievements of talented individuals and groups.

The artwork and photos from both events can be seen here:
