Pop band Ou est le swimming pool hold Chazzstock in aid of Mind
Posted Wednesday 15 September 2010
To celebrate the life of recently passed frontman Charlie Haddon, his friends, family and fellow band members from Ou est le swimming pool are holding Chazzstock in his memory. Taking place at Koko in Camden on 4 October 2010, a number of fellow musicians have offered to play, including The Kooks, Man Like Me, Daisy Dares and Mr. Hudson. The gig will help to raise vital funds for Mind and promote mental health awareness, especially in young men.
Charlie, or Chazz, sadly took his own life in August shortly after a gig with Ou est le swimming pool. Suicide is an all too common occurrence, especially in young men, who often feel unable to speak out when they are feeling down and instead suffer in silence. Not seeking help for their problems can be fatal, and three times as many men take their own life as women.
Paul Farmer, Mind Chief Executive said
We are so sorry to hear of the band's recent tragedy and our thoughts of course go to Charlie's friends and family. We are grateful to Charlie’s friends, family and band members for their hugely generous donation to Mind which will help us to continue with this work. We hope that this gig will inspire young men to open up about mental health issues.
To encourage men to get help when times are tough, Mind launched a campaign called Get if off your chest to promote better mental health awareness. It aims to get men to recognise the importance of talking about their problems and seek help when times get tough, while (with Men's Health Forum) rallying the government to create a strategy to address mental health issues among British men. Mind has a range of services such as men-only support groups and sport therapies such as boxercise therapy that we hope help men to feel comfortable in accessing the support they need.
