Mind Media Awards 2012 sponsored by Friends Life

The 2012 awards ceremony, hosted by Stephen Fry at the British Film Institute on 19 November, brought Frankie Sandford, Denise Welch, Gok Wan and other celebrities together to celebrate the best portrayals and reporting of mental health in the media. Among the winners were ITV’s Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Emmerdale, and Channel 4’s Homeland.

Our distinguished judges had to make some very tough decisions. Entries were up 20 per cent on last year as mental health themes entered the mainstream of television, as well as national newspapers, radio and digital media.

A range of high-profile sportspeople and entertainers have felt able to be open about their mental health, making it easier for everyone to start talking and helping break down the prejudice and barriers around seeking help.
