Eating disorder awareness week this year falls between 22 and 28 February. We're marking it by sharing some of our info and our supporters' stories.

Eating problems can take over your life.

It can feel like there's no one that understands or that no one can help you.

Asking for help can feel like giving up control, or it can feel like letting go of a secret which you've held onto for a really long time.

But you don't have to face it alone.

There are others who have been through what you are experiencing right now, and who have recovered.

Some of them have told us their stories. You can read or watch them below.

We've also looked at all the evidence and talked to many people with direct experience of eating problems and put together some info, which you might find helpful to read.

Real people's experience of eating problems

Learning about other people's experiences can offer you comfort and make you feel like you're not alone. Most importantly though it can give you hope that things can get better, which you can hold with you through your own recovery.

Shaista, Dave, Lilith and Olivia...

...talk about their experience of eating problems such as anorexia, restrictive eating, binging and purging.

Not a lifestyle choice

"An eating disorder is portrayed as a desire to be the thinnest person in the world for vanity purposes. It's ridiculous how far removed from the truth that is."

Coping with bulimia

"Eating disorders in men, just like depression, should not be a taboo subject."

Saying goodbye to anorexia

"If I could share one thing ... it would be to seek help; no matter who you speak to and no matter what thoughts or fears you may have."
