This Sunday evening at 9pm on Channel Four, the nation's viewers will see social enterprise Growing Well being visited by 'The Secret Millionaire'. In this episode Rob Calcraft, a multi-millionaire who made his fortune in the beauty industry, posed as a television presenter to spend the day working alongside the volunteers and staff of Growing Well, an organic growing company based at Low Sizergh Farm on the edge of the Lake District, that supports people recovering from mental health problems.
During the filming the team at Growing Well thought that something was amiss when he spent the day working in the fields dressed in a Vivien Westwood jacket, and they didn't have to wait too long to find the true reason for his visit.
The enterprise's Growing Co-ordinator, James Smith, said, "We worked really hard on the day to give the television crew a good view of the work we do within organic growing and mental health recovery. After finding out we'd actually been featured in The Secret Millionaire, we were all very nervous about how our work would be portrayed."
James needn't have worried, as Rob, who has experienced mental health issues himself, said that he thought Growing Well was such an excellent venture, and so well run, that he didn't feel it needed his support. This offers another example of the success of social enterprises in delivering services to their local communities. The programme on Sunday reveals who he decided to give his financial support to.
