Grow It,  Eat It - John’s story

John was worried about his physical and mental health, and often had very low moods. When he heard about Grow It, Eat It, a Bristol-based project that helps people who experience mental distress to enjoy and physically benefit from growing their own fruit and vegetables, he thought this could be a positive way to turn things around and take steps to leading a happier and healthier lifestyle.

John tells us about how the project has had a positive impact on his life, ‘’overall my physical health has improved…I am eating more healthy food and feel like I have more energy.’’ Read more

PoLLeN – Reg’s story

To begin with Reg stayed on the ‘periphery’ of the group, preferring to work alongside Lisa. As he started to form friendships with other members, he relied less on Lisa for support and worked more closely with others. After Reg had attended for a few weeks, Reg’s GP told Lisa that Reg had said,‘‘For the first time in a long time, I sang as I walked home.’’ Read more

PoLLeN – Lisa’s story

“There was a time when I thought I would never be well again, that I would always be depressed, and find everything exhausting. I did not think I would manage the 9 to 5, but I am doing just that right now. I don’t go home and have to sleep, which was so much part of my life when I was depressed. I have also lost four stones in weight, and feel I have regained my self-esteem. I am the most physically healthy I have been in my life, and this is because I am mentally healthy and physically active.'' Read more
